Joyce received her Bachelor of Science degree from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. During her undergraduate degree, she specialized and majored in Marine Biology. Through the co-op program she spent two work terms working as an animal care technician and became familiar with the medical research industry. After graduation she spent a few years working various technical positions for the Department of Fisheries and Oceans on a number of projects involving flora and fauna from near shore as well as deep sea locations. She spent a number of weeks working at sea aboard large research vessels as well as observing the commercial crab fishery on small fishing boats. At AGADA biosciences, Joyce is using her background as an animal care technician to help manage the breeding colony, assist in the processing and analysis of research trials, and manage the occupational health and safety program.
